3 Signs You Need New Tires

October 17, 2022

Not a lot of drivers spend a lot of time thinking about the health of their tires. Your car tires play an integral role in your safety and the performance of your vehicle. As such, you need to ensure that you maintain proper tire pressure and health. At some point, you'll also need to replace your tires. Fortunately, you'll never run out of help when it comes to new tire installations. According to Biz New Orleans, there are about 16,000 auto repair establishments across the United States. Here are some signs that it's time to get new tires.

1. Cracks in the Sidewalls

You can easily do a visual check to see if your sidewalls are in good condition. When inspecting your sidewalls, try to check if there are any tracks or cuts. In some instances, you may notice grooves that are large enough to be visible to the naked eye. This is a sign that you may end up with a leak, which is something you should want to avoid at all costs. Therefore, the moment you notice any cracks or cuts on the sidewalls, you should invest in a new set of tires.

2. Low Tire Tread

Naturally, when the tire tread gets low, you need to invest in a new set. One of the easiest ways to see if the tread on your tires is low is to complete the penny test. All you need to do is place a penny in between your tire treads with Lincoln's head pointing downwards. If you're able to see the top of Lincoln's head, then your tread is too shallow and you should change your tires as soon as possible.

3. Bulges and Blisters on Your Tires

This is another obvious sign that you need to get new tires. Blisters on your tires can cause them to blow out. This can happen while you're on the road and, as you may imagine, it can lead to an accident. Bulges and blisters usually extend outward from the rest of the tire surface. They are weak spots that can lead to sudden blowouts. If you don't change your tires after noticing this, then you're putting yourself and your vehicle at risk.
